Dinner may be lean meat again with fiber-rich vegetables. Dinner is lean meat again with fiber-rich vegetables. Cheese and low-fat yogurt are allowed, as is sugar-free gelatin for dessert.[3]

Phase two will continue until you meet your goal weight. [4] Phase one is also the peak for rapid weight loss, with most dieters reporting loosing anywhere between 8 and 12 pounds. [5] Phase two continues until the dieter reaches his or her ideal weight, ideally averaging a loss of one to two pounds per week. [6]

Phase 2 of the South Beach Diet you can start to slowly reintroduce the right carbs, such as fruit and whole-grain breads and pastas. Bring each of these carbs back to your diet one by one, and monitor how your body reacts.

Phase one lasts for two weeks. During this period you eat meals of lean meats , low-glycemic-index vegetables, eggs, nuts, and low-fat cheese. Phase II allows the South Beach follower to enjoy a wider variety of foods. South Beach recipes in Phase II of this eating style include many fabulous desserts and treats that you will not be able to resist.[9]

Phase II is a return to a normal diet, though slowly, and in moderation. Wholegrain foods, cereals, fruits and vegetables are once again given in moderation.[10] Phase 1 is the first two weeks on the diet, where you will eat more meat, fish, vegetables, cheese, nuts and eggs than normal. No fruit or alcohol is allowed in this stage.[11] Phase 1 is for 2 weeks and starts you off with a plan to jump-start your weight loss while learning what foods to enjoy vs. You won't starve on this diet as the plan.[12]

Phase one in the South Beach diet is basically the same as the Atkins diet except it is recommended only for 2 weeks. The author claims that 8-13 pounds of weight loss is typical during this period.

Weight loss can be very rapid in the first phase, and a lot of this seems to come from fluid loss. Diets high in carbohydrate (especially in the form of simple sugars) increase the body’s production of insulin, and insulin invites body cells to store fat. Weight loss continues during this phase, but not at as rapid of a rate as is experienced during phase 1. The amount of time that phase 2 takes will depend on how much weight you want to lose.[16] Weight loss and maintenance depends on establishing a balanced diet that avoids 'bad' fats and carbohydrates. The proponents of the South Beach diet claim that you can lose weight and maintain the weight loss without counting calories, weighing portions or depriving yourself of good-tasting, satisfying foods.[17]

Weight Loss Resources has a great set of tools to help you find a way of dieting you can live with. Find out how to achieve the calorie balance that is going to get you to your ideal weight without a list of forbidden foods.[18] Weight loss will slow during this phase and that's okay. Try not to get discouraged. Weight begins a fairly rapid decrease, and you begin metabolizing carbs properly. Even the craving for carbs disappears once you cut down on their consumption.

Following discharge, the patient discontinued the low carbohydrate diet plan and he has remained asymptomatic and euglycemic over the following two years while maintaining a BMI of 27. [21] Following nutritional rules is VERY difficult for anyone. Try to set clear goals when starting this type of diet and allow yourself to endulge on something that will curb your cravings.

Carbohydrates are off-limits during Phase 1, but "good carbs" (like whole grains) are gradually reintroduced in Phase 2. Phase 3 segues into a less restrictive but still healthy eating regimen.[23] Carbohydrates that have a low glycemic index only raise your blood sugar levels slightly, thus falling into the "good" category. Those that have a high glycemic index raise your blood sugar levels greatly, and are therefore labeled as "bad".

Carbohydrate-rich foods with a high glycaemic index, like bagels, cornflakes, white bread and jacket potatoes cause a rapid rise in blood sugar, resulting in the release of a large amount of insulin to deal with this. This causes blood sugar levels to drop rapidly, leaving you lacking in energy, craving more carbs and quickly feeling hungry so that you eat again.[25]

Vegetables are also allowed, as well as nuts, cheese, and eggs. A salad with real olive oil dressing is fine.[28] Vegetables, eggs, cheese, and nuts are permitted, as are coffee and tea. Salads with olive-oil dressing may accompany your meals.[29] Vegetables are also allowed, as are nuts, cheese, and eggs. A salad with real olive oil dressing is fine.[30]

Eat enough calories to supply your body’s energy needs, but not so many that your body stores the excess as fat. Eating low-sugar carbs -- those with a low glycemic index (they don't cause the blood sugar levels to rise and fall as quickly) is allowed, whereas sugar-laden carbohydrates are forbidden. [32] Eating can be both pleasurable and healthy as long as you eat the proper foods. All the meals in the SouthBeach Diet consist of healthy combinations of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.[33]

Eat regular except for all that fast food stuff. I am 33yrs old and 5feet 6inch now.[34] Eating these carbs will give you a glucose jolt that could raise your blood sugar, and you might end up feeling hungrier. If it's okay with your fellow diners, ask your server to remove the basket before you even have a chance to nibble.[35]

Addiction, inner struggle ? anything unresolved becomes much like the tropical weather we experience in South Beach. Everything looks great on the outside despite degrading atmospheric pressure.[37] Adding peanut butter is a nice way to mix it up. It's definitely a part of my breakfast repertoire now.[38] Additionally, during this phase, you can drink all the coffee and tea you want and be sure to drink lots of water. [39]

Carbs with a high Glycemic Index create an 'insulin resistance' syndrome, whereby insulin can no longer process fat or sugar. In addition, 'bad fats' such as saturated and trans fat contribute to an increase in the likelihood of cardiovascular disease. Carbos are for the energy you need for immediate use, including thinking, breathing, getting out of your chair, sprinting up the stairs. Protein energy is for rebuilding damaged body tissues, growth and maintenance of muscle, organs, etc.[41]

Agatston, are low on a scale called the Glycemic Index, meaning they are absorbed slowly and thereby raise (and ultimately) lower blood sugar more slowly than other carbs. But the numbers on the Glycemic Index scale don’t jibe with his instructions.[45] Agatston says you should never be hungry (and my favorite -- if you're hungry, count out 15 cashews and you'll be satisfied -- yeah, right!), but if you follow the meal plans, I guarantee you will be. [46] Agatston ? whose office is not in South Beach, by the way, but the older, tamer neighborhood to its north ? is not far from that giant of diet doctors, the late Dr. Robert Atkins, in his belief that refined sugar and white flour are the villains behind the nation’s climbing obesity rate.[47]

Agatston recommends that you avoid eating low-fat prepared foods. He says that the fats in these foods are replaced with carbohydrates.[48] Agatston himself conducted the study, more research is needed to determine whether the South Beach Diet is effective. [49] Agatston, maintaining a steady level of blood sugar will reduce cravings. However, it is universally recognized that changes in blood sugar are not the only – and perhaps not even the primary – cause of cravings.[50]

Agatston's popular diet and the recipes in THE SOUTH . [51] Agatston says his is not a low-carbohydrate plan, but a "right-carb” lifestyle. Yet the first two weeks — no bread, no pasta, no fruits, of any sort — sound awfully similar to Atkins.[52] Agatston, maintaining your new, healthy weight is no longer a "diet," it's a way of life. [53]

Agatston's wants you to get rid of the "bad" carbohydrate cravings that cause you to overeat. The principle behind the diet is simple. Agatston recommends exercise but says it's not necessary to lose weight; rather, it's key for faster weight loss and for reducing insulin and glucose levels. The recommendation to go back to Phase 1 or 2 any time you start gaining weight could cause nutrient shortfalls if you stay on the restrictive Phase 1 diet too long.[55] Agatston developed his own. You''ll enjoy normal-size helpings of meat, poultry, and fish.[56]

Agatston developed his own. The South Beach Diet isn't complicated, and it doesn't require that you go hungry.[57] Agatston believes that excess consumption of so-called "bad carbohydrates", such as the rapidly-absorbed carbohydrates found in foods with a high glycemic index, creates an insulin resistance syndrome-an impairment of the hormone insulin's ability to properly process fat or sugar. In addition, he believes along with many physicians that excess consumption of "bad fats", such as saturated fat and trans fat, contributes to an increase in cardiovascular disease.[58]

Phase 3 has a very wide choice and even allows restaurant visits and wine (see the official site for further details). [59] Phase two is simple. It basically reintroduces the correct carbs that are said to be good for you and your weight like fruit and some whole grain foods (bread, pasta. I'd always rather try something new and, frankly for phase one, I'd rather have someone else do the hunting for me! [62] I'd recommend it to anyone. [63]

Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts. [64] Thanks sun, I think I am going to start tomorrow although I am a bit worried I will struggle with having such a savory breakfast. I have to start work really early so usually scoff down a quick bowl of cereal.[65]

Atkins virtually eliminates all complex carbohydrates, but does not restrict fat consumption at all. So you can eat butter, oils and fried foods such as bacon and eggs.[67] Atkins, that of "hyperinsulinemia.".This says that foods high on the hypoglycemic index, invariably carbohydrates, send sugar rushing into the bloodstream. The pancreas then shoots insulin like a fire hose to clear the sugar out of the blood and into the organs.[68]

Rather, it relies on a mixture of the right carbohydrates and fats. [70] Rather, it comes from loss of water within the liver and muscle tissue because the carbohydrates that are stored have been depleted. [71] Rather, you are advised to eat a proper, well-balanced diet for the rest of your life. That seems rather simple, doesn't it ?[72]

According to the FDA, the sexual effects of aphrodisiacs are based in folklore, not fact. But if you ask a male lab rat whether they work, he may get a big cheesy grin on his face, wiggle his whiskers and wink.[76] According to the results released in May 2007 of a 20 year study, the Mediterranean diet greatly reduces your chances of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) such as emphysema and bronchitis. Of the 43,000 men studied, those who ate a Mediterranean diet had a 50% lower risk of developing COPD than those consuming a Western diet (processed foods, sugar, red meat), even after adjusting for age, smoking, and other risk factors.[77]
